Printable Build a Schoolhouse Craft
The classic red schoolhouse is one of the most recognizable symbols of back to school, which makes this a fun craft idea for the beginning of the school year!
Kids can build their own schoolhouse complete with windows, a door, and a bell tower. Just color the pieces, cut them out, and glue everything onto a sheet of paper or construction paper.
This activity works well with back to school themes in preschool or kindergarten.

How to Build Your Own Schoolhouse

Supplies Needed
- Schoolhouse craft template
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- White copy paper or construction paper (optional)
Step 1: Color the pieces
Color the schoolhouse, roof, windows, door, and bell tower with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
We used red, but you can use any colors you like!
Step 2: Cut out the pieces
Use the dashed lines to guide you as you cut out each piece. It’s okay if there’s a little white space around the edges.
Step 3: Add the roof
Glue the roof onto the top of the schoolhouse, slightly overlapping the top edge of the building.

Step 4: Add the windows
Glue one window over each open space on the front of the schoolhouse.

Step 5: Finish your schoolhouse
Glue the door between the two windows. Then, glue the bell tower at the top of the roof to finish your schoolhouse.
