Here’s an easy ocean animal craft to make this summer with your preschooler or kindergartner!

The printable includes all the pieces needed to build your own jellyfish.

Sign up below, and I’ll email you the jellyfish template along with two more free crafts: a cat and pumpkin.

The tentacles have lots of curved lines, so they’re great for practicing scissor skills during an ocean theme.

How to Build Your Own Jellyfish

Supplies Needed

  • Jellyfish craft template
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • White copy paper or construction paper (optional)

Step 1: Color the pieces

Color the main jellyfish piece and tentacles with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

Real jellyfish come in all sorts of colors, from pale pink and blue to deep purple, and some are even see-through!

A few kinds can glow in the dark, too, so don’t be afraid to get creative and make yours as colorful as you want.

Step 2: Cut out the pieces

Cut out all of the pieces.

Don’t worry about cutting perfectly on the lines. A little border around the edges is completely fine, especially around the curves in the tentacles.

Step 3: Glue the tentacles

Start by gluing the tentacles behind the jellyfish.

If you’re using a sheet of paper as a background, you can glue the tentacles onto the paper first instead.

Step 4: Finish your jellyfish

Add the eyes to complete your craft!

Learning Ideas

  • Count the tentacles after gluing them onto the jellyfish
  • Talk about where jellyfish live.
  • Practice color words by describing the jellyfish and the colors you chose.
  • Compare a jellyfish to other ocean animals by discussing how they look and move.
  • Read a jellyfish or ocean-themed book before or after making the craft.
